Decoration 3.0 -näyttelyssä ornamentin ja koristeen tematiikka niveltyy teosten kantavaksi rakenteeksi.
Päämotivaationa kuvien tuottamiselle toimii visuaalisen ilmaisun kehittäminen sinänsä. Työskentely on luonteeltaan etsivä ja avoin prosessi jossa kuva rakentuu paikoin tiedostamattomien ja ennalta arvaamattomien aspektien vaikutuksesta.
Intuitiivinen tekeminen ohjaa työskentelyä eteenpäin ja sen kautta löytyy ratkaisu ja merkitys kuvien luomiselle. Decoration 3.0 linkittää omiin suuntiinsa vapaasti kehittyneet yksittäiset teokset yhdeksi isommaksi kokonaisuudeksi.
Kitschiin yhdistettävä estetiikka sekä digipainettujen kankaiden massatuotetun kaltainen olemus korostaa kuvien “pinnallista” luonnetta. Kontrastina tälle toimivat vesivärimaalaukset jotka muistuttavat hauraalla olemuksellaan kuvan ainutlaatuisuudesta ja herkkyydestä, noudattaen kuitenkin samaa visuaalista kieltä kuin digipainetut kankaat.
Teosten kuva- ja värikieli sen räikeydellään, tuo mieleen populaarikulttuurin esteettiset vaikutteet ja graffitin. Kuitenkin esimerkiksi Kindergarten-vesivärimaalauksen hidas valmistusprosessi, litteä olemus sekä ihmisfiguureita yhdistelevä asetelma voi viedä ajatuksia osittain myös mosaiikin tai ikonimaalausten suuntaan.
Vesivärimaalaukset ja niiden suhde digipainettuihin kankaisiin on hybridi, jossa erilaiset esteettiset vaikutteet, valmistusmetodit ja materiaalit kollaasimaisesti sekoittuvat ja rinnastuvat keskenään.
BIO: Mikko Luostarinen (s. 1993) asuu ja työskentelee Helsingissä.
Viime vuodet hän on työskennellyt vesivärimaalauksen sekä tekstiilisuunnittelun parissa.
Hän valmistui kuvataiteen maisteriksi 2020 keväällä. 2018 Mikko osallistui Kuvataideakatemian Kuvan Kevät lopputyönäyttelyyn sekä yksityisnäyttelyyn Kuvataideakatemian Project Room galleriassa. 2016–2017 Mikko oli vuoden Japanissa, Tsukuban yliopistossa opiskelijavaihdossa. Hän on osallistunut useisiin ryhmänäyttelyihin Suomessa sekä ulkomailla.

The thematics of ornament and decoration are intertwined to form the fundament of the artworks in this exhibition.
The main motivation behind the production process is the development of visual expression as such. The characteristics of the production take the form of a seeking, open process in which the picture is built up, in places, with the help of the influence of subconscious and unpredictable aspects. Intuitive work guides the process forward and forms the means through which the solution and meaning behind the creation of the images is found. The individual works, each of which have developed freely in their own direction are linked together in Decoration 3.0 as a single larger entity.
The “superficial” nature of the printed images is highlighted in their kitsch-esque aesthetics as well as in the essence of the digitally printed fabrics, similar to mass production. Contrasting this, the watercolor paintings mirror with their fragile essence the uniqueness and sensitivity of the images all the while following the same visual language as the digitally printed fabrics.
The imagery and colors of the works conjure up with their brashness the aesthetic influences of popular culture and graffiti. However for example the watercolor work Kindergarten, with its combination of slow preparation, flat appearance and a composition of human figures, can take one’s thoughts in some ways towards religious icon paintings and mosaics.
The watercolor paintings and their relation to the digitally printed fabrics is a hybrid which both combines as well as contrasts different aesthetic influences, production methods and materials in a collage-like fashion.
BIO: Mikko Luostarinen (b. 1993) lives and works in Helsinki.
During the last few years he has been involved in watercolor painting as well as in textile design.
He graduated as Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in the Spring of 2020. In 2018 Mikko participated in the graduation work exhibition of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Kuvan Kevät. In the same year he held a solo exhibition in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts’ Project Room gallery. In the years 2016 to 2017 Mikko spent a year in Japan as an exchange student at the University of Tsukuba. He has taken part in several group exhibitions both in Finland as well as internationally.
