Antti‑Ville Reinikainen – Katve
30.10.– 22.11.2026
Tervetuloa avajaisiin to 29.10. klo 18-19:30

Antti‑Ville Reinikainen – Fringe
30 Oct – 22 Nov 2026
Welcome to the opening Thu 29.10. 6pm-7:30pm
Meet the artist Sun 22.11.2026, 3-5 pm
Antti-Ville Reinikainen’s exhibition Fringe features a series of wooden sculptures painted with acrylic and oil colours, all of which were created over the past year.
The sculptures, constructed from plywood, are based on architectural transitional spaces and routes such as stairwells, staircases and balconies. Cross-sections of architectural drawings, for example, have served as a source of visual inspiration. They explore the challenges of seeking and forming connections, both between people and within the surrounding world. In the sculptures, the structures familiar from apartment buildings seem to break off into the air or are separated from one another as if avoiding each other.
The sculptures are also inspired by personal memories of the concrete walkways in the suburbs of the artist’s youth and the staircase of the wooden house where he spent his childhood summers. The house structures reflect the limitations of human memory as well as physical resources. At the same time, they are also closely linked to the concrete creative process behind the artworks. The twisting and fractured paths of the sculptures evoke the idea of a connection that can be lost and rediscovered.
“A year and a half ago, I lost the desire to make art. It always takes a while to recover after a major exhibition, of course, but this time the sense of meaninglessness felt worryingly persistent.
Eventually, while browsing through some old sketches, I came across a drawing of a stairwell that cut into the air. It resonated with me. That quickly led to the creation of a couple of works. I just started building and painting without overthinking it: I took measurements, spackled and sanded. Hours slipped by almost unnoticed during the painting phase that followed the construction work, as I experimented with different shades and refined the color surfaces. For the first time in a long while, I felt like I was finding joy in my work and some kind of deeper meaning.
I had rediscovered the connection lost in the fringe.”
