”Maalaukseni saavat usein alkunsa puhelimen muistioon kirjoitetuista lyhyist\u00e4 sanallisista ideoista. Ideat tulevat nopeasti, kun taas kuvien parissa ty\u00f6skentely on hidasta. Joskus olen ty\u00f6skennellyt temaattisesti, l\u00f6yh\u00e4\u00e4n narratiiviin perustuen. Toisinaan l\u00e4hestymistapani perustuu muutamiin kuva-aiheisiin, joita varioimalla ty\u00f6skentelen sarjallisesti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Galleria Ars Liberan n\u00e4yttelyss\u00e4 l\u00e4hestymistapani on orgaanisempi. Esill\u00e4 on kesken\u00e4\u00e4n erilaisia, eri tekniikoilla toteutettuja maalauksia, sek\u00e4 pieni\u00e4 kolmiulotteisia teoksia. Yhden perusidean sijaan n\u00e4yttelyn teokset edustavat, p\u00e4iv\u00e4kirjamerkint\u00f6jen tapaan, teoksesta toiseen vaihtuvia ajatuksia ja tunnelmia. Kokonaisuutena niist\u00e4 hahmottuu kuva ajatuksista, joita olen viime aikoina py\u00f6ritellyt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e4yttelyn nimi For Now viittaa johonkin tilap\u00e4iseen ja keskener\u00e4iseen. El\u00e4m\u00e4 on prosessi jossa mik\u00e4\u00e4n ei ole pysyv\u00e4\u00e4. Olemme aina liikkeess\u00e4 ja muutoksen keskell\u00e4. Viime aikoina olen miettinyt paljon aikaa ja siihen liittyv\u00e4\u00e4 v\u00e4\u00e4j\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6myytt\u00e4. Ajan kuluminen on osa jokap\u00e4iv\u00e4ist\u00e4 olemistamme, nykyhetken kietoutuessa menneisyyteen ja toisaalta kurkottaessa alati kohti tulevaa. V\u00e4lill\u00e4 on kuitenkin hyv\u00e4 olla t\u00e4ss\u00e4 hetkess\u00e4, rikki ja keskener\u00e4inen, mutta kuitenkin olemassa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e4yttelyss\u00e4 on esill\u00e4 kolmenlaisia teoksia. Mets\u00e4aiheiset maalaukset, jotka edustavat eskapismia ja yrityst\u00e4 paeta kielt\u00e4 edelt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n lapsuuden maailmaan. Sis\u00e4tiloihin sijoittuvat maalaukset, jotka ovat yrityksi\u00e4 tutkia ihmisen psyykkist\u00e4 sis\u00e4tilaa. Esinem\u00e4iset, kolmiulotteiset teokset ovat syntyneet maalausprosessin ohella, er\u00e4\u00e4nlaisena sivutuotteena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Koen olevani ty\u00f6skentelyss\u00e4ni vapautumassa pitk\u00e4\u00e4n samoja kehi\u00e4 kiert\u00e4neist\u00e4 ajatuksista. En tied\u00e4 v\u00e4littyyk\u00f6 t\u00e4m\u00e4 viel\u00e4 k\u00e4sill\u00e4 olevista teoksista, mutta haluaisin ajatella ett\u00e4 joitain viitteit\u00e4 tulevasta on jo n\u00e4ht\u00e4viss\u00e4.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topi Juntunen<\/strong> on syntynyt Suomussalmella, opiskellut Lahden Taideinstituutissa ja Taideyliopiston Kuvataideakatemiassa (KuM 2021). T\u00e4t\u00e4 ennen h\u00e4n opiskeli vuoden ajan Limingan taidekoulussa.\u00a0 Vuodesta 2022 l\u00e4htien h\u00e4n on asunut ja ty\u00f6skennellyt Kuopiossa.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

”My paintings often start with short verbal ideas written in a phone memo. Ideas might come quickly, but working on the images is slow. Sometimes I have worked thematically, based on a specific narrative. At times I have been working serially, varying the same motif in the form of several paintings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Gallery Ars Libera exhibition, my approach has been more organic, not so much implemented according to a specific formula. I have worked on paintings that are different from each other, executed in different formats using different techniques, as well as small three-dimensional works. Instead of one basic idea, the works in the exhibition represent thoughts and moods that change from one work to another, like diary entries. As a whole, they sketch a picture of the thoughts I have been preoccupied with lately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name of the exhibition For Now<\/em> refers to something temporary and unfinished. Life is a process in which nothing is permanent. We are always in motion and in the midst of change. Lately I have been thinking a lot about time and the inevitability associated with it. The passage of time is part of our everyday existence, with the present intertwined with the past, while at the same time reaching toward the future. Sometimes, however, it is good to be in this moment, broken and unfinished, but still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition presents three kinds of works. Paintings with forest motifs, which embody escapism and an attempt to return to the pre-linguistic world of childhood. Paintings set in interiors, which are attempts to explore the psychic inner space of the human being. And object-like, three-dimensional works, created alongside the painting process as a kind of by-product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my practice, I feel I am beginning to free myself from thoughts that have long circled in the same patterns. I don\u2019t know if this is already evident in the paintings in this exhibition, but I would like to think that some hints of what is to come can already be seen.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topi Juntunen <\/strong>was born in Suomussalmi, studied at the Lahti Institute of Fine Arts (BFA 2011) and the Academy of Fine Arts of Uniarts Helsinki (MFA 2021).
