N\u00e4yttely tuo ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 kertaa yhteen pitk\u00e4aikaisten yst\u00e4vien ja kollegoiden Triin Kergen ja Laura B\u00f6\u00f6kin teoksia, jotka tutkivat henkil\u00f6kohtaista suhdetta maisemaan videon ja tekstiilitaiteen kautta. Pistot Triin Kergen tekstiiliteoksissa ja liikeperformanssit Laura B\u00f6\u00f6kin videoinstallaatiossa ovat kehollisen meditaation muotoja, joilla on vahva yhteys taiteilijoihin vaikuttaneisiin paikkoihin.<\/div>\n

Triin Kerge tuo n\u00e4yttelyyn kirjottuja tekstiiliteoksia kahdesta eri teoskokonaisuudesta. Sarjassa Sand and Other Sediments (2021\/2022) taiteilija syventyy lapsuusmuistojensa maisemaan. H\u00e4nell\u00e4 on vahva side puuhun, jonka luona h\u00e4nen vanhempansa vierailivat ennen h\u00e4nen syntym\u00e4\u00e4ns\u00e4, ja jonka \u00e4\u00e4relle h\u00e4n itse on palannut koko el\u00e4m\u00e4ns\u00e4 ajan. Pistojen loputon kuvio pit\u00e4\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00e4\u00e4n kokoelman taltioituja muistoja, jotka yhdess\u00e4 muodostavat menneisyyden. Lujasti yhteenkietoutuneita, neulasenohuita juuria muistuttava kirjonta on alkupiste Kergen matkalle h\u00e4nen puunsa ytimeen. Sarjassa Scenes from a Lost Family Album (2022 alkaen) Kergen kirjailemat kuvat muodostavat er\u00e4\u00e4nlaisen perhealbumin. Kergen oman perheen valokuva-albumit, jotka h\u00e4n muistaa lapsuudestaan, ovat eri syist\u00e4 kadonneet, joten h\u00e4n on k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt antiikkiliikkeist\u00e4 l\u00f6yt\u00e4mi\u00e4\u00e4n vanhoja valokuvia sek\u00e4 muistoja omista perhealbumeistaan teosten l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtina.<\/div>\n

Laura B\u00f6\u00f6kin videoinstallaatio Katoamisharjoituksia (2021\/2017) koostuu kameran edess\u00e4 esitetyist\u00e4 leikkisist\u00e4 ja meditatiivisista performansseista, joissa h\u00e4n piiloutuu maisemaan ja kuvaan. Teoksen ensimm\u00e4inen osa, Camouflage (2017), kuvattiin \u00d6r\u00f6n saarella taiteilijaresidenssin aikana. Sen innoittajina toimivat saaren luonto ja historia linnakkeena sek\u00e4 jokap\u00e4iv\u00e4iset rituaalit ja valmistelut \u2013 mit\u00e4 tuoda mukanaan, miten liikkua saarella, sulautua uuteen ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n ja antaa sen muovata itse\u00e4. Toinen osa, In Plain Sight (2021), sekoittaa saaren merimaisemia Helsingin joutomailla, kaupunkimetsiss\u00e4 ja rakennusty\u00f6mailla kuvattuihin kohtauksiin. Taiteilija l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 tutusta kaupungista vieraita maisemia, liukuu alas pehmeit\u00e4 sein\u00e4mi\u00e4 ja luo improvisoituja koreografioita. Videoteokset esitet\u00e4\u00e4n Ars Liberan galleriatilassa yhten\u00e4 yhdeks\u00e4n minuutin looppina. \u00c4\u00e4niraita on tehty yhteisty\u00f6ss\u00e4 Marloes van Sonin kanssa. Videon lis\u00e4ksi B\u00f6\u00f6k tuo n\u00e4yttelytilaan sarjan valokuvia maisemista, kallioiden kuvioista ja muista yksityiskohdista \u00d6r\u00f6n saarelta ja muualta Suomen lounaisrannikon saaristosta, h\u00e4nelle merkityksellisist\u00e4 paikoista. Kuvat ovat syntyneet toistuvien saaristovierailujen aikana vuosien 2015 ja 2023 v\u00e4lill\u00e4.<\/div>\n

The exhibition brings together, for the first time, works of long time friends and colleagues Triin Kerge and Laura B\u00f6\u00f6k, exploring personal connections to landscape through video and textile art. The stitching in Triin Kerges textile works and the movement performances in Laura B\u00f6\u00f6ks video installation are forms of physical meditation strongly connected to certain places that have affected the two artists.<\/div>\n

Triin Kerge is exhibiting embroidery pieces from two different series of works. In Sand and Other Sediments (2021\/2022) the artist has taken a closer look at the landscape that she remembers from her childhood. She holds a strong connection to a tree that her parents visited before she was born and that she has paid a visit throughout her life. The neverending procession of stitches hold a collection of recorded moments that form the past. A piece of embroidery resembles tightly intertwined needle-thin roots and is the starting point of her journey to the core of her tree. In Scenes from a Lost Family Album (ongoing since 2022) Kerge has created a series of embroidery pieces that depict a kind of a family album. Her own family albums that she remembers from her childhood have been lost for various reasons, so she has taken old photographs found in antique shops as well as her memories of the old family album as a reference to create these works.<\/div>\n

Laura B\u00f6\u00f6k\u2019s video piece A Few Attempts To Disappear (2021\/2017) consists of playful and meditative performances for the camera, in which she hides her body and different objects in the landscape and the frame. The first part, Camouflage (2017) was filmed during an artist residency on \u00d6r\u00f6 island on Finland\u2019s southwestern coast, inspired by the island\u2019s nature and military past as well as daily rituals and preparations – what to bring, how to move around, blend into and be shaped by the new environment. The second part, In Plain Sight (2021) mixes island seascapes with scenes filmed in urban forests, wastelands and construction sites in Helsinki. The artist finds strange landscapes in a familiar city, sliding down soft structures and creating improvised choreographies. In the Ars Libera exhibition space, the videos are presented together as a continuous loop, with a soundtrack created by Marloes van Son. In addition to the video piece, B\u00f6\u00f6k is presenting a series of photographic prints showing landscapes, rock patterns and other details from \u00d6r\u00f6 and elsewhere in Finland\u2019s southwest archipelago, from places significant to the artist. The images are made during continuous island visits between 2015 and 2023.<\/div>\n
